Character Breakdown/Profile

For my look i have decided to recreate a a mermaid/siren make up look i did a couple of years ago. In order to create this look i use latex and cotton wool balls to create a protruding shelf along the cheekbones and connecting to the chin, i also use this technique to create gills along the neck as well. The majority of this look will be done with my airbrush kit, this is as it gives me a large coverage, as well as a smooth and opaque base to work on. Using the airbrush also allows me to create a plethora of custom colours for the look making a unique colour everytime.

Sirens in most mythology and lore are said to be scorned women thrown overboard whilst overseas, this being as it was seen as bad luck to have a woman on board whilst sailing. In order for these scorned women to get their revenge on those who robbed them of their lives, they use their voices and music to charm and lure men, making them crash their boats on rocky shore and ultimately perish. In Greek mythology it is also told that as well as controlling men with their voices, sirens could also control the winds.

In the early stages of folklore and mythology as a whole it was told that sirens were a mix of bird and women, it wasn’t until the seventh century that they were starting to be depicted as half human half fish such as the modern mermaids and sirens we know today.
